Looks like the Aransas Pass Civic Center is shaping up to be a nice venue for banquets, meetings and other events! There aren’t very many venues like this North of the Bridge (North of Corpus) They are even taking reservations! Here is the latest from the Aransas Pass Progress:

This is a really informative article from MSNBC that puts the entire bailout plan in terms I can understand.

I know this much, the housing market is pretty local and here in S. Texas we have been relatively unscathed. Credit isn’t local though, it’s national. If the banks tighten down anymore, and they are already pretty tight, it will decimate housing nationwide, including us in my opinion.

Hurricane Ike gave them a few troubles but it looks like the crew in Rockport got the beach all cleaned up and it’s back to being ready to enjoy!

I read this article courtesy of the Ingleside Index. A local school with Jr.High students is trying same gender core classes (math, English, etc) and co-ed electives like chorus and band. The idea is to decrease discipline issues and encourage students to participate more without fear if ridicule. Personally, I think it’s a GREAT idea! Check it out!

It looks like the Aransas Pass Code Red System (reverse 911) was pretty successful with an 80% notification rate. That sounds pretty good to me. Apparently there are some people out there that have new phone numbers that aren’t registered. Check out the article from the Aransas Pass Progress on the latest on this system and how to make sure YOU will be notified in case of an emergency.

Texas now has a toll-free number you can call to report suspected price gouging from Hurricane Ike! The Caller-Times reported it’s mostly in the gas and lodging industry (big surprise there!) but also with food, batteries, water and generators! If YOU suspect price gouging, call 800-252-8011

This is a pretty interesting article from the Caller-Times about the effects Ike has had on beach erosion. There are also some amazing before and after pictures of Galveston.
