I thought this was a pretty good article from MSN.com on how to avoid buying a lemon of a new house. This dealt only in new construction and having just built our OWN new home int he last year, I can see where people could get ripped off. The one piece of advise I have to people looking to purchase new construction is to research, research, research. Ask around, A LOT, and people will tell you. They have friends that bought there and hated/loved it or they own a home there and they love/hate it. You can research online as well or ask to visit some job sites in various stages of construction. Any builder/salesperson/site manager worth their salt will be HAPPY to walk you all around and tell you about all the benefits of building with THEM.
Paul and I are happy to report we are DELIGHTED with our Hogan Home. We spent a lot of time researching before we decided on where we wanted to land. Our home isn’t perfect, no home is, but there are a lot of things we like about our Hogan Home. We had many floor plans to choose from, we witnessed ALL phases of construction and were happy with the quality and when we had issues after closing (a cracked windowsill, leaking toilet, low spot in the backyard) their warranty dept. took care of these issues promptly and at no cost to us. We even have another YEAR of warranty left! So fortunately, our experience was GREAT!
